Small gains bring big savings

As pressure rises on NHS managers, Voice Technologies is supporting the drive to cut costs. Digital dictation is recognised as making significant efficiency improvements; even the relatively small reductions of minutes and pounds per document that it brings add up to big savings overall. We have delivered new digital dictation systems over recent months to clients who are benefitting immediately from efficiency gains.

At Charleston Surgery in Paisley, we have replaced an out-of-date analogue system, introducing an Olympus digital dictation and transcription system that has transformed the workflow. Similarly, at Newcastle Health Centre we have designed a digital dictation system that is supplemented with a mobile app. The app enables the team to record dictations and check and approve documents when they are off-site, adding to their efficiency gains.

On the Isle of Mull, we have set up an Olympus digital dictation system complete with handheld devices, dictation software, and transcription kits and software at the Tobermory and Salen Surgeries. Their island location meant there was potential for a delay in deploying the system which our project team avoided by carrying out installation and training remotely, enabling the Surgeries to start making savings straight-away.

At community-based NHS Lanarkshire Palliative Care, we have installed WinScribe digital dictation. The team covers the whole of Lanarkshire including hospitals, hospices and health centres. In the past there were delays as documents were sent between multiple sites. The new system we have deployed significantly speeds up document creation, file sharing, verification and distribution.
