Apprenticeship creates a strong foundation
Voice Technologies has a strong culture of nurturing future talent for the digital age so when West College Scotland approached us about their Foundation Apprenticeships in Software Development we were all ears.
Foundation Apprenticeships, which take two years to complete and are equivalent to Higher (SCQF level 6), see pupils splitting their time between college and working with a local employer. We have signed up to the partnership and the first pupil to join us is Cailean Donnachie who is working with our software development team for a year, having started in September 2018.
Cailean said, ‘For me, it’s about getting hands-on experience and skills in a growing industry while, at the same time, getting a qualification that employers recognise. That combination can give you a head start when it comes to getting a job.”
Colin Wood, Voice Technologies’ Software Development Manager, commented, “Foundation Apprenticeships are designed to develop the young workforce by giving them a clear understanding of employers’ expectations so that they’re ready for the world of work. As an employer, we’re keen to engage and help in that process. It’s also a great way for us to identify talent to keep Voice Technologies at the forefront of what we do in the future. We’ve been through the apprenticeship loop on other schemes with great success, so we’re well set up for Cailean’s apprenticeship.”
