As you are no doubt aware, Microsoft stopped their support for the Windows XP Operating System as of 8th April 2014. However, Voice Technologies will continue to support all of our clients who use Windows XP.

What does this mean for me?

This doesn’t mean your computer will stop working but it does mean that it will become increasingly more vulnerable to security risks and attacks as the days go by. Additionally, if Microsoft are no longer providing improvements or bug fixes for Windows XP, it is likely that software developers and programmers will stop too. Sooner, rather than later, you may find an overwhelming reason to upgrade your PCs to a newer platform, like Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Should I be concerned about upgrading?

Aside from the initial cost and learning curve, which doesn’t need to be that high at all, there aren’t many things to be concerned about. You may even find some new improvements and benefits which will make you wonder how you ever lived without them.

However, it is worth bearing in mind that some of the programmes and devices, which you use every day, were designed to work with XP technology which is now 12 years old. Therefore, some these may not work with a newer Operating System.

How do I know that my Digital Dictation or Speech Recognition systems will still work after I upgrade?

This is a difficult question to answer in general terms, as there are so many variations and options in these systems. However, if you purchased or upgraded your system with Voice Technologies within the last couple of years then you should have little to worry about. Just note that there may be some necessary steps to follow before, during and after your upgrade to make sure everything works as expected.

If your technology is now more than few years old then there may be some compatibility issues to consider. Many of these may have simple solutions but some may require an upgrade or replacement.

Either way, to eliminate any doubts, speak with one of our experts to discuss your needs and systems and they will be able to advise you personally. You can call Voice Technologies on 0141 847 5610 (Glasgow) or 0114 244 9960 (Sheffield).

What if I don’t upgrade and choose to stay with Windows XP?

Rest assured that Voice Technologies will continue to support all of our systems, regardless of what operation system you use.
